Bridge Brake Replacement or Rebuild Service
Case Study

Old bridge brakes for Vertical, Swing, Bascule, Counterweight and Draw bridges that have been in service for many years are often hard to replace.  We are often asked to replace existing “Brand-X” brakes which are no longer available.

We offer two viable options:

Replacement Service

Our bridge brake customized replacement service can customize new Mondel Brake units designed for bridge brake service to replace the old Brand-X.

Many old brakes previously made by other manufacturers have odd, different and even strange mounting patterns and dimensions. We can build you a replacement Mondel brake to retro-fit to your existing brake mounting and dimensions.

Below is an example of brakes that Engineered Lifting and Mondel designed to retro-fit where GE brakes were being used. These brakes have stainless steel components, limit switches for open and close, manual hand release, and auto adjust among other features designed specifically for bridge brake service.

We can also supply enclosures and up to date controls if needed.

Rebuilding Service

Many bridge brake and other heavy moveable structures applications operate in harsh environments with high duty cycles.  Engineered Lifting Systems provides a brake rebuilding service to restore worn or damaged brakes to new operating condition.

Rebuilding brakes can be time consuming, and many maintenance staffs are already overburdened with keeping equipment operating day to day. Ship your brakes to our facility for evaluation, and our service department will get you a hard quote on what it takes to put your brake in new condition!

They come in looking like this (or worse).

Now you can see the pivot points!

Some of the bearings are gone, and other parts bent

When they ship back to our customers, they are ready for installation.

We repair brakes of all sizes and types. This is a 23-inch thruster brake.

The photos above are all thruster brakes, however we provide the same service for AC and DC brakes. Don’t scrap your brakes, send them to us to see if we can rebuild them so you have a spare.
